French toast salted
Whether you like it sweet or salted, French toast is usually quite a favourite in any part of the world. In England, at my Hall of Residence, however, when French toasts were served on Fridays, hardly any one liked it. We all found it smelly, greasy and quite unappetizing.
But when my mom makes French toast, it always tastes divine. I asked my mom about the secret ingredient.
Can you guess what that is? …………………………………………..
It is butter (and not cooking oil). Butter is the ingredient that imparts a really nice flavor. However, if you don’t like the “buttery” taste, please feel free to use any cooking oil which you are familiar with.
To make your French toast less greasy, we suggest that after browning you use a paper napkin to absorb all the excess oil. Please see the method below to see how you can exactly do it.
(This recipe is for one egg. In case you need to make more, just multiply all ingredients, in equal proportion.)
Ingredients
Egg-1
Bread slices-2
Milk-4 tablespoon
Salt and pepper to taste
Butter-2 tablespoon
Optional
Chopped Onion- 1 table spoon
Chopped Tomato- 1 table spoon
Fresh Coriander (or any green herb of your choice) chopped-1 table spoon
Method
1. In a bowl, gently break the egg carefully ensuring that no portion of the egg shell goes into the bowl.
2. Whisk the egg well and add the milk and the salt and pepper.
3. In a pan, add the butter and let it warm up.
4. As the butter is warming up, dip a slice of bread in the batter and let it absorb some of it. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT IF YOU LET THE BREAD REMAIN IN THE BATTER FOR TOO LONG, IT WILL DISINTEGRATE.
5. Put the slice in the pan and gently brown it.
6. Remove to a serving dish which already has a paper napkin to absorb the excess oil/butter, if you so wish.
7. Do the same thing with the next slice. The batter should be just enough for two slices of bread.
Enjoy your French toast.
Optional: You may also decorate your French toast with Thai chilli sauce,
chopped tomatoes, onions, coriander or any other herbs of your choice as my father likes it.
